Approval of Agenda

So that there is agreement between board members on the agenda, and the amount of time spent on the meeting, the board shall vote to approve an agenda for the meeting. To the best of its ability, it will follow that agenda, and allow for the chair to move the board through the agenda as specified.

Mission Statement

The meeting will begin by reading the mission statement:


Westside Atlanta Charter School fosters a diverse, tight-knit community of lifelong learners, giving each child an excellent academic experience that builds curiosity, critical thinking, and character.

Public Comment

The WACS Board would like to welcome students, parents, staff and community members. In order to facilitate an efficient meeting, if you would like to offer comments please limit your remarks to the public comment period of the agenda. We would ask that sign up on the sign up sheet and limit your comments to 3 minutes. Finally, we ask that you not include comments that reference individual students (other than your own). If you need to reference a specific student, you may do so in writing to governance@wacs.us where the board can protect student privacy. We understand that after the public comment period, you may have questions/comments regarding topics that are discussed during the meeting. Please direct those questions to governance@wacs.us. The Board may not address comments/questions after the public comment period. However, we will work with the school administration to provide a prompt response to your email.


If you have a grievance, we would ask that you follow the board policy of starting first with the lowest level of authority as that is almost always the place where change can happen most effectively. Any grievance directed to the attention of the board, should be sent to governance@wacs.us. We thank you for your cooperation. At this time, we would like to open the floor to public comment.

Community Council Report

Community Council Co-Chair Natalie Grubbs gave an update.

  • Successful fundraising last semester
  • Back to School breakfast, staff appreciation meals and treat carts
  • Bingo night was well attended in November and they're planning another for March


Looking ahead:

  • Sparkles night is tonight 1/15
  • Black History Program in February
  • Glow party is planned for April 17th
  • Community Council meeting/Movie Night in May

School Leader Report

Executive Director Dr. Tanner reported on the status of the school:

  • Attendance update YTD: 95%
  • Enrollment update: 346
  • 3 students relocated out of the district
  • Lottery is live on the new district SchoolMint site. The new site gives school additional details to help with enrollment planning.
  • Enrollment is low across the district
  • Re-enrollment period begins in February. Dr. Tanner is in touch with the newest families at Westside.
  • Incentive rubric update: Dr. Tanner is conducting check-in meetings with staff to explain the data and outcomes.
  • Governor's Office of Student Achievement (GOSA) report
  • As of 1/12/2026 GOSA takes the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI) scores, which have different weights, and applies them to a numerical score on a scale of 0-100 for each school in the state.
  • The Executive Director and principals gave context for each score and how points are weighted based on subgroups and enrollment size

Finance Committee Report

  • CFO William Arterberry gave the monthly financial update
  • Finished December above budget expectations
  • Reserve strategy enrollment loss line item in budget is working well
  • Submitted Title I reimbursement for Q2
  • The security grant portal opened and we submitted for reimbursement
  • The committee reviewed the financial policies and suggested edits that will be reviewed by the governance committee
  • A preliminary operating budget for 2026/2027 is being reviewed by administration


Governance Committee Report

Governance Committee members Susan Beckett-Mitchell and Hannah Heck gave monthly report.

  • Annual board self assessment coming up in April
  • Reviewing the the bylaws in February to update language
  • Social media policy in progress w/ staff input
  • Reviewing financial policy in March
  • Discuss strategic planning options
  • March 14th retreat is scheduled. The committee has quotes from 2 consulting firms, and GCSA has sent their options for facilitating plan development
  • Full policy review in February
  • Other updates to policies being drafted/reviewed in collaboration with administration in order to set up a public listing of policies
  • Reminder for board recruitment/succession timelines

Development Committee Report

Development Committee Co-chairs monthly report.

  • Dr. Tanner has nurtured the Archer Alumni group relationship. They attend basketball games! They've donated items for the students.
  • Gratitude subcommittee is forming to help WACS follow-up and recognize contributions and donations
  • EOY giving: $1600
  • Our GCSA video is at 191k views!
